Australian Network of Student Anthropologists

The Australian Network of Student Anthropologists (ANSA) was established in 2005 as an initiative of Australian postgraduate students. ANSA aims to:

  • Share knowledge, experience, and support amongst student and early-career anthropologists
  • Provide a voice for student interests and encourage student participation with the Australian Anthropological Society (AAS), with specific attention paid to the needs of postgraduate students enrolled at Australian Universities
  • Provide resources and information for student and early-career anthropologists

ANSA is a sister association of the AAS; we provide funding for a range of ANSA initiatives, including travel grants to assist students presenting at the AAS Annual Conference and prizes in the ANSA visual ethnography competitions. More information about ANSA activities is available on their website.

ANSA Executive and Committee

The ANSA Executive comprises the Chairperson, Secretary, and Web Officer, and is supported by the Committee. The ANSA Committee comprises student or early career researcher representatives from Australian universities (primarily postgraduates).

The Executive is responsible for overseeing ANSA’s activities and funding, and the chairperson also acts as the postgraduate student representative on the AAS Executive Committee (in a non-voting capacity). The Committee members - or University representatives - are conduits for information at their respective universities.

Further information about the roles of the Executive and Committee members is available on the ANSA Website and the ANSA Constitution.
