First Nations Initiatives
In 2021, the AAS Executive hosted the annual conference for the first time. This conference included three plenaries of First Nations scholars and anthropologists who challenged the ways we think and act as anthropologists. With permission from the speakers, recordings of these talks are available via the link below. These recordings can act as a resource and interface for future scholars and students and cements the kinds of contributions First Nations anthropologists and thinkers can make to our discipline.
A key part of the initiative is creating a resource of First Nations authors who write within the discipline of anthropology and aligned sub-disciplines. This bibliography, 101 Ways to Disrupt Your Thinking, highlights the diversity of First Nations writing. It is designed to be used to create course reading lists, generate knowledge and discussion, and is a resource for developing reference lists.
